Explore on foot two spectacular Arizona locations–remote western Grand Canyon, homeland of the Hualapai Tribe, and the spectacular red rock country of Sedona. Hikes will encompass hikes at different elevations and within various ecosystems of both Grand Canyon--including the Colorado River and Granite Gorge in the canyon's depths--and scenic red rock canyons in Sedona. We will explore the geology and ecology of these unique areas of Arizona and the heritage of the region’s Native American peoples, including the Hualapai of Grand Canyon. One of our hikes will take us all the way down to the bottom of the canyon at the Colorado River where the rushing water and noisy nearby rapids will help your naturalist guide illustrate this mighty river’s turbulent past, present and future. Our travel day includes a visit through scenic Oak Creek Canyon to the mountain town of Flagstaff and the Museum of Northern Arizona en route to our lodging on old Route 66.
For moderate to serious hikers. Daily hikes of up to 6 miles are largely cross-country, including some rugged terrain and sustained uphill grades of up to 500 vertical feet. Elevations up to 6,000 feet.
