Burrowing Owl - Chuck Pearson

Your birding adventure encompasses three distinct regions with distinct habitat areas - sandy beaches, major bay systems, extensive marshlands, creeks, ponds, grasslands, and heavy mesquite brush. Mustang Island and King Ranch sustain an incredible variety of wildlife and more than 450 species of birds. Led by local experts and staff from the acclaimed University of Texas Marine Science Institute Research and Education Laboratory we begin in the Aransas National Wildlife Refuge on Mustang Island. Sightings may include; Reddish Egrets, Green Herons, Roseate Spoonbills, and a myriad of shorebirds. Journey inland to legendary King Ranch guided by the ranch ornithologist to bird the backroads and trails for Green Jays, Vermillion Flycatchers, Great Kiskadees, Olive Sparrows, and White-tailed Hawks. Venture south for specialty birds such as Ferruginous Pygmy Owls (the largest known U.S. population), Northern Beardless Tyrannulets, Tropical Parulas, Hooded Orioles, and Clay-colored Sparrows.

Up to 7 hours in the field per day. Program enrollment limited to 14.

Program in association with University of Texas Marine Science Institute.
