Red Earred Slider - Rick Tinnin

Cruise the central Texas Gulf Coast aboard a 50-foot excursion boat. No single location along the Texas Coast captures the imagination more than Aransas National Wildlife Refuge, the winter home of the whooping cranes and spring home to myriad nesting birds, wading birds and shorebirds. Explore Aransas and Rockport's numerous small bays with an expert birder. With a historian, trace the route of the first immigrants who "crossed the bar" from the Gulf to the forgotten ports of El Copano and St. Mary's. Learn about the role of Gulf ports during the Texas Revolution and Civil War, and enjoy peaceful views of bays and inlets from the top deck or a climate-controlled cabin.

February and March programs highlight the sole remaining wild migratory flock of magnificent, endangered whooping cranes in their winter home at Aransas. April program highlights the rookery islands of Aransas and the nesting egrets, herons and spoonbills all decked out in gorgeous spring breeding plumage as well as the spring "fallout" of neo-tropical songbirds.

Program in association with University of Texas Marine Science Institute.

Rockport (Texas)

Located on the Gulf Coast, 31 miles north of Corpus Christi, Rockport is a haven for birders as well as art lovers. Whooping cranes and scores of other species migrate here during the winter months, and artists and their patrons enjoy a small but thriving arts community.
