Itinerary: Sagamore 5 nights
rappelling at Sagamore Grands camp - photo by Dave Scranton

“In this age of video games and cell phones, there must be a place for knots, tree houses and stories of incredible courage,” so begins Hal Iggulden’s popular “Dangerous Book for Boys.” Come to an Adirondack Great Camp on beautiful Sagamore Lake to bring to life this national bestseller and its companion book, “The Daring Book for Girls.” Share old-fashioned, adventure pastimes as you skip rocks, transmit secret codes and ciphers, resurrect the art of making paper crafts and play croquet. Learn flat water canoeing, basic first aid, how to build a fire, and then spend a night camping under the stars. The Sagamore Institute offers the perfect playground, where boys and girls of all ages can be daring and even get in a little bit of trouble.

For adult participants and kids ages 8-12. One adult must attend for each one or two youths registered. Adults and grandchildren share a room. Adults are responsible for the supervision of their grandchildren. We will accomplish as many activities in the book as possible in a camp setting and in our time together. Please Note: that we must reserve the right to change specific activities if we believe it will improve the program overall.

Program in association with Sagamore Institute of the Adirondacks.

Free time permits opportunity to canoe, hike, take a virtual tour, play giant lawn games and relax. Nothing in camp is paved and there are stairs into most buildings.

Raquette Lake

Raquette Lake’s pristine water and wooded lakeshores are located in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains. Great Camp Sagamore, founded by the Vanderbilt family in 1897 and now a National Historic Landmark, shares this wilderness area.
