Lees Ferry and the charming, tree-shaded oasis of Lonely Dell Ranch have long captivated the imaginations of visitors. Join National Park Service Ranger Alan Malmquist to help stabilize and preserve these important sites of pioneer and American West history. As head of the preservation and rehabilitation project, Ranger Malmquist shares his in-depth knowledge of the site and allows exclusive access to buildings closed to the general public. As you work on the historic root cellar and bunkhouse, study the natural and human history of this historic crossing of the Colorado River established by Mormon pioneers in 1871. On a field trip to a California condor release site on the Vermilion Cliffs, learn more about North America’s largest bird.

Walking up to one mile daily. Portions of the costs of this program may qualify as tax-deductible. Please see the Registration page for more information.

Program in association with Northern Arizona University, offering educational Southwestern adventures for over 25 years.

Marble Canyon

Embraced in the Grand Canyon National Park, Marble Canyon sits between the north rim and the south rim of the park. A fly-fishing destination, Marble Canyon has a history stretching back 10,500 years when the first evidence of humans appeared in the area. Indian tribes have been living in the region continuously for the past 4,000 years.
