Enjoy a sampling of some of America's finest in the vocal industry. Explore the life and times of the great American soprano, Beverly Sills: opera star, wife, mother, and impresario. Trace her career in her famous roles while a NYCO star performer to artistic director of that same company. Then, trace the career of soprano, Maria Callas, who captured the world's attention with her uniquely expressive voice and dramatic skill. Compare her performances of “Traviata,” “Lucia,” “Norma,” and “Tosca” with divas such as Tebaldi, Price, and Sutherland. Also examine works by Stephen Sondheim, prominent American musical theater figure and composer of musicals, lyricist and songwriter, including A Little Night Music and Sweeney Todd.

This program will take place during a very exciting time at the Peabody Conservatory. During the month of April, Conservatory students perform recitals for the completion of their degree. Each evening, select from numerous degree recitals, of various instrumentation!
