Itinerary: Lake Powell, AZ 3 nights

Enjoy two quintessential Southwestern adventures—a Colorado raft trip and a guided tour of Antelope Canyon, the most-photographed slot canyon in the Southwest. See the beauty of the region revealed in rock as you enjoy a smooth-water raft trip from Lake Powell to Lees Ferry, the very beginning of the Grand Canyon. Raft beneath towering 800-foot red-rock cliffs, view riverside Anasazi petroglyphs (rock art) and uncover the river’s fascinating human saga. Discover the region’s fascinating geology, ecology, Mormon history and the heroics of Major John Wesley Powell. Guided field trip (via 4x4 vehicle) to Antelope Canyon on Navajo Reservation, where the forces of the wind and water have created a miraculous kaleidoscope of colors and shapes.

Raft trip requires agility to get in and out of a pontoon raft. Hiking distances up to 1 mile available on field trips. Elevation at Lake Powell and at Page is 4,300 feet.

Program in association with Northern Arizona University, offering educational Southwestern adventures for over 25 years.

Lake Powell

Resulting from the construction of the Glen Canyon Dam in 1963, Lake Powell is a surrealist’s dream, as houseboat flotillas drift past curvaceous rock formations, hidden coves and red-rock cliffs. Crystal-clear water reflects the lake’s towering buttes.
