Native American culture goes back two millennia in the Southwest, during a time when an ancient people called the Anasazi laid the cultural foundations for today's modern pueblo tribes. Spend a full day at Chaco Canyon exploring the ceremonial hub of the Anasazi world. Guided hikes explore the premier attractions of Pueblo Bonito, Chetro Ketl, Casa Rinconada, and numerous 1,000-plus-year-old petroglyphs. See echoes of this cultural past as we visit the Zuni reservation with a Zuni guide. Learn about the Spanish quest for the “Cities of Gold” and subsequent attacks on Zuni villages in the 16th century. Admire the Katsina murals of Alex Seowtewa, who is preserving traditions in a Catholic church erected in 1629 during Spanish colonization.

Includes two full-day active field trips to Chaco Culture National Historic Park and the historic Pueblo of Zuni. Walking of up to one mile required, sometimes over sandy/rocky trails.

Program in association with Northern Arizona University, offering educational Southwestern adventures for over 25 years.
