Itinerary: Raquette Lake 5 nights

This "grands camp" experience is designed to bring family generations together by providing a wide variety of activities designed to foster the vital connections between grandparents and their grandchildren in a safe and beautiful setting. Experienced, certified boat-building instructors will provide hands-on training on restoring and maintaining a classic wooden canoe. Learn, first-hand, traditional paddling techniques in the beautiful waters of surrounding Great Camp Sagamore. Presentations on the history of boats and boating in the Adirondacks, along with campfires and a regatta will complete your experience. A special mid-week option may include an opportunity to carve a traditional one-piece paddle to take home for an additional fee.

For participants and kids ages 11-14. One adult must attend for each one or two youths registered. Adults and grandchildren share the same room and are responsible for the supervision of their grandchildren. You will be learning to build and or repair a classic cedar canvas canoe. No skills are necessary but knowledge of hand tools is a plus. Opportunity to canoe, hike, take a virtual tour, play giant lawn games.

Program in association with Sagamore Institute of the Adirondacks.

Camp is not paved and there are stairs into most buildings.

Raquette Lake

Raquette Lake’s pristine water and wooded lakeshores are located in the heart of the Adirondack Mountains. Great Camp Sagamore, founded by the Vanderbilt family in 1897 and now a National Historic Landmark, shares this wilderness area.
