This unique program, designed for physically fit, experienced hikers, will explore Sedona’s pristine National Wilderness areas. Hikes, primarily in the four wilderness areas surrounding Sedona, will traverse seldom-used routes and avoid popular trails and maximize opportunities for adventure and solitude envisioned by wilderness designation. From verdant riparian communities to red rock mesas dotted with pinon, juniper, and anzanita to pine covered mountains, enter the world of this region’s unique ecology. Learn the geologic processes of Sedona’s distinctive landscapes as well as the botany, archaeology and history of the region. Time is dedicated during hikes to reflect upon the stunning surroundings and awesome natural landscapes.

Daily hikes of 4-10 miles; greatest net elevation gain of 1,900 feet. Routes are rocky and sometimes steep, always challenging; some non-technical rock scrambling necessary.

Program in association with Northern Arizona University, offering educational Southwestern adventures for over 25 years.

Sedona's elevation is 4,500 feet.

Sedona

Sedona was historically a rural ranching community in Oak Creek Canyon. Today, the sunny city attracts visitors to its red-rock cliffs and lush evergreens, international film festival, and lively art scene.
