Explore pristine and spectacular western Grand Canyon, land of the Hualapai Nation, in this program for moderate to serious hikers. This is an opportunity to visit wilderness locales in Grand Canyon that are virtually untouched by modern humans, from deep chasms with running streams to lofty ridges and rims with forever views. Our hikes, accompanied by Hualapai tribal guides along with other instructors, encompass all levels of Grand Canyon, from the high rim country above to the Colorado River and Granite Gorge below, utilizing the only road to the bottom of Grand Canyon to access our hiking routes. We will focus on our Hualapai heritage (ancient campsites and rock art are evident) as well as Grand Canyon geology and natural history.

Daily hikes of five to seven miles are largely cross-country, including some rugged terrain (no significant drop offs/vertical exposure) and sustained uphill climbing up to 500 vertical feet. Hiking elevations 1,500-6,400 feet.

Program in association with Northern Arizona University, offering educational Southwestern adventures for over 25 years.

Best air destination is Phoenix (210 miles; commercial shuttle available). Alternate air destination is Las Vegas. (150 miles; no shuttle)

Peach Springs

Home of the Hualapai Nation, or "People of the Tall Pine," Peach Springs is the reservation’s tribal capital, which comprises 1 million acres along the Colorado River and Grand Canyon region.
