Explore Arizona by traveling both of its scenic railroads -- the Grand Canyon Railway en route to the S. Rim of Grand Canyon National Park and the Verde Canyon Railroad through the scenic rim country along the Verde River. Sedona, with its wonderfully ubiquitous red rock vistas, provides the perfect backdrop for exploration of this region's geology, natural and human history. Explore Sedona's best-loved sights aboard an open air trolley. Wind your way through beautiful and lush Oak Creek Canyon on the way to Williams, AZ, home of the Grand Canyon Railway. Travel through open range, pinon and ponderosa pines to the canyon's rim. Spend a night in Grand Canyon National Park with a full day to explore the canyon, walk the rim or take a short hike with time enough built in for a spectacular canyon sunset/sunrise. Experienced and knowledgeable instructors and guides will captivate you with insights into regional lore during your exploration of this breathtaking part of Northern Arizona.

The Verde Canyon Railroad, operated by the Santa Fe, Prescott & Phoenix Railroad, was built for $1.3 million dollars in 1911 in only one year. The 38-mile, standard gauge line from Clarkdale to Drake, AZ was constructed by 250 men using 200 mules, picks and shovels and lots of black powder explosives. The Grand Canyon Railway debuted in 1901. The Santa Fe Railway and Fred Harvey Company built most of the historic structures on the Canyon's S. Rim. Service stopped in 1968 and was reborn in 1989.

Program in association with Northern Arizona University, offering educational Southwestern adventures for over 25 years.
