Some of the world's most spectacular canyons, including the twisting confines of Oak Creek Canyon, the 2,000-foot-deep riparian Verde River Canyon, and the immensity of Grand Canyon, grace the northern Arizona landscape. Experience the beauty of these divergent canyons, from the magnificent red rock formations of Sedona to the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, to Peach Springs in secluded western Grand Canyon. We explore the geology and ecology of these canyons, travel by rail up the Verde River Canyon, and spend a day at the South Rim of the Grand Canyon, having time to visit the impressive Desert View Watchtower, gaze at stunning vistas of the Colorado River, enjoy a walk along the Canyon’s rim and take in a magical sunset. Conclude your Canyon foray in its remote western end, where you will spend a day in the depths of Granite Gorge, via the only road to the bottom of Grand Canyon (a well-kept Arizona secret), viewing at close hand the turbulence of white water rapids.

Elevations up to 7,000 feet. Free return transportation to Sedona upon program conclusion included.

Program in association with Northern Arizona University, offering educational Southwestern adventures for over 25 years.

Itinerary

Arrivals, Sedona, 3 nights; Grand Canyon South Rim, 1 night; Peach Springs, 2 nights. Return to Sedona. Independent arrivals in Sedona by 5 PM. Departures after 8 AM from Peach Springs.

Sedona

Sedona was historically a rural ranching community in Oak Creek Canyon. Today, the sunny city attracts visitors to its red-rock cliffs and lush evergreens, international film festival, and lively art scene.
