Explore remote and spectacular Grand Canyon on foot, from the exotic turquoise waterfalls of Havasu Canyon to the sparkling waters of Diamond Creek in Granite Gorge on the Hualapai Reservation. This program for moderate to serious hikers is a unique opportunity to experience some of the most beautiful and inaccessible locales in western Grand Canyon, from deep chasms with running streams and waterfalls to lofty rims with forever views. Hiking encompasses all of Grand Canyon, from rim to river, including viewing the turbulent and powerful rapids of the Colorado, the imposing depths of Granite Gorge, and an overnight hike into the remote village of Supai, an isolated community nestled amidst sheltering canyon walls on the Havasupai Reservation. While exploring the Canyon’s depth and breadth on foot, field-based and evening discussions focus on geology, ecology, regional prehistory and the Native American heritage of the Hualapai, Havasupai and Colorado Plateau peoples.

In August of 2008, Havasu Canyon experienced a major flash flood, reworking many of the well-known waterfalls and travertine formations, and reopened to the public in May of 2009. Be among the first to see the ‘new’ Havasu Canyon. Daily hikes of 5-8 miles are partly cross-country and include some rugged terrain and sustained uphill grades. Elevations 1,500-6,000'.

Program in association with Northern Arizona University, offering educational Southwestern adventures for over 25 years.
