A unique opportunity to share a winter experience with your grandchild in Minnesota's north woods. Through hands-on activities and outdoor discovery, you'll learn about tracking North Woods animals, orienteering, winter and lake ecology (including ice fishing). Immerse yourself in cultural history as you practice native skills, meet visitors from the past, and hop on a dogsled. Also experience snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, an Adventure Ropes course, and indoor climbing wall. Enjoy a family folk dance on the final evening. Free time options include crafts and games, astronomy, and naturalist presentations. Most classes are shared with grandchildren, a few sessions are separate.

This intergenerational program is for adult participants and young learners ages 8-12, one or two children per adult. Adults are responsible for child supervision; however, down time is available during several scheduled "kids only" classes.

Program in association with Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center.

Finland

Finland was one of the last areas of Minnesota to be settled due to its rugged isolation, but today, its stunning location on Lake Superior’s north shore attracts visitors who are also interested in the area’s history, ecology and outdoor activities.
