TRAVELING LLI
ORIGINAL QUERYFROM BETSY MORRIS, EXPLORERS, SALEM STATE COLLEGE, MASSACHUSETTS
We would be very interested in hearing your comments as well as those
from LLIs who have tried similar experiments, about a new program we
are developing called Explorers On The Road (ExOTR):
We have 3 motives/goals in trying this experiment:
1. To spread what we do - and do very well, thanks to our volunteer
Course Leaders - to a wider audience.
2. To have a secondary income stream
3. To use ExOTR as a platform for member recruitment
We have the okay from our Board of Directors to try a 'beta test' of
one year, which will begin on June 1, 2009. We have 16 courses to offer
during this test period. The charges will be tiered:
- For-profits will pay $200/session (I.e., a six session course will
cost $1200)
- Not-for-profits will pay $100/session
Our sales effort will begin after the holidays, and the target market,
within our membership geographical territory, is retirement communities,
councils on aging, libraries, community centers, as well as an odd assortment
of community colleges, art communities, etc. (any place that we know
already offers courses). We are not specifically targeting older adults
(in fact, our sales literature will not feature retirees), but by the
nature of the market, most of our most logical prospects will be places
where retirees gather. Thank you.

A handful of IRP students are paid book discussion group leaders contracting

One comment.- OLLI RU offered some courses in a senior center several
years back and ran into this problem: The center is in a gated community
and was only
