THE EXPERIENCE BUFFET
Members of the Lifelong Learning Institute at Northern Virginia Community
College – Manassas recently shared their work experiences, hobbies,
travels and special interests.
Offerings included:
Insights on Russia – A husband and wife team
shared their recent experiences in Russia as higher education delegates
with the People to People Ambassador Program. They showed photos of
their trip and gave brief insights into the history, culture, education
and politics they gleaned from the Russians.
Modular Model Railroading – One member gave a
presentation that consisted of describing, setting up, decorating with
modular scenery and running a completed modular model railroad.
Building Kayaks – Another member discussed the
history of kayaks – what they’ve been used for and how they’ve
evolved over the past 5,000 years. He described two types of kayaks:
the Greenland from the eastern Arctic and the western Aleut from the
Aleutian Islands off Alaska. He also demonstrated the materials and
methods used in constructing a kayak. For contrast he showed a modern
fiberglass model.
