THE RENAISSANCE CERTIFICATE OF LIFELONG LEARNING
The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at the University of South
Florida in Tampa offers members a chance to earn The Renaissance Certificate
of Lifelong Learning. Here are the details, taken from their winter
2008 course catalog.
No matter what your previous degrees and accomplishments, there may
be room in your life for another one – that of Renaissance lifelong
learner. The Renaissance certificate program is designed to encourage
you to become a well-rounded learner, and to receive recognition for
your accomplishment.
How does the program work?
Register for the program as you would for any OLLI-USF program. We
will send you your Renaissance passport and more information. Every
eligible OLLI-USF program will be classified in terms of a Renaissance
subject category.
What are the areas, and how many classes will I need to
take?
OLLI-USF offerings are categorized into one of the certificate categories
– history, humanities and the arts, literature and writing,
political science, science and mathematics, and electives. You need
to register for two study groups in each of the six categories for
a total of 12 study groups to complete the certificate.
How much time do I have to complete the certificate?
As long as it takes; there is no time limit on learning! You may wish
to take advantage of OLLI-USF’s second choice option to take
another class per term if you like.
Will I get credit for this?
OLLI-USF offers noncredit programming. We do not issue grades or require
you to take tests, and our programs do not issue credit toward any
degree. Like everything else with the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute
at USF, the Renaissance learner is expressing a love of learning.
How much will this cost?
ONLY a one-time fee of $10 and, of course, the cost of registering
for each eligible course.
What happens when I’ve completed all the classes?
You will be issued a beautiful, specially-designed certificate, indicating
that you have successfully completed the certificate program. You
will also be honored at an OLLI-USF event.
