During the spring 2008 break, Lifelong Learners at the Fairfield Senior Center in cooperation with Sacred Heart University presented four very interesting mini-courses.

The first was Behind Closed Doors: Famous Artworld Couples. This illustrated lecture focused on the 19th Century Paris of Edgar Degas and Mary Casatt, Edouard Manet and Berthe Morisot as well as the 20th Century Manhattan of Alfred Stieglitz and Georgia O’Keefe, and Willem and Elaine DeKooning.

The second was David Rowe Presents. Dr. Rowe, a local pastor and teacher at the lifelong learning program, offered insights from his many travels over the years to Africa, Latin America, India and Europe. He touched upon culture, religion, politics and development.

The third mini-course was Ever Popular Jane Austen. A local psychologist who has been a member of the Jane Austen Society of North America for over 22 years, enlightened members as to the current popularity of Austen’s novels.

Finally, in the last course participants had the opportunity to Meet the Author, Nicholas Rinaldi, internationally recognized for his three novels and three collections of poetry. His discussion for this mini-course included his latest novel “Between Two Rivers,” set in current-day New York City.
