BENEFITS OF MEMBERSHIP

Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at Coastal Carolina University

A membership fee is new this year, in compliance with the Osher Foundation’s expectations, and is required of anyone taking OLLI courses. The fee is $20 per semester (fall and spring) and entitles the member to a photo ID and a campus parking permit (expires 9/30/09). OLLI members are responsible for observing all university regulations and, when parking on campus, displaying their parking pass. After the first week of classes, photo IDs are available at the Dept. of Public Safety on campus (Atheneum Hall). The photo ID entitles the holder to the following benefits:

  • Special Interest Groups: Participation in book clubs, gardening academies, investment, computer and foreign language clubs is free with OLLI membership.

  • eNewsletter: Lifelong Learners with e-mail addresses are entitled to receive the weekly OLLI eNewsletter, which keeps them updated on events.

  • Cultural Events: Admission to most university-produced events are discounted for senior citizens (65 & over) but not to all OLLI members. However, tickets may be purchased by phone (349-2502) and held at will call, using a credit card and your OLLI ID number.

  • Library: OLLI members enjoy all the privileges of students, including use of computers, interlibrary loans, teleconferencing facilities, off-campus access to online data bases (including the newspaper data base) and checkout privileges. For a private introduction to the library, call 349-2402.

  • A.B.L.E.: A Better Lifestyle Experience is a year-round exercise program targeted for those 50 years and older. Classes meet 5 mornings a week (7:30-8:15 a.m.) during the fall and spring semesters (and 3 days a week during the summer months) in the Campus Recreation Center where participants enjoy a variety of fitness activities from “land” and water aerobics to weight training. The fee for OLLI members is $35 per semester (a $10 discount). To register, call 349-2815.

  • Athletics: With the exception of football and basketball games, and any tournaments and post-season play in all other sports, all regular season events (fall volleyball, soccer, and tennis; spring track, baseball and softball) are free for OLLI members. Call 349-2822.

  • Quail Creek Golf Course: A special OLLI rate of $30 per round (with cart) provides a $12 discount off the public rate ($42). For unlimited golf privileges, Lifelong Learners pay $700/year (compared to $825 for the public). Tee times must be booked 7 days in advance. For more information, call 347-0549.

  • Conway Wellness & Fitness Center: OLLI members with current ID cards (and a course enrollment receipt) are exempt from the enrollment fee (normally $100) and do not need to sign a contract (normally 12 months). Membership rates are: $50 for any one month; $175 for fall (8/15/08-12/31/08); $175 for spring (1/1/09-5/15/09); $125 for summer (5/15/09-8/15/09). For more information, call 347-1515, extension 4802.
