LIFE IN TRANSITION AND MOVING ON

This course, given recently at the Academy for Lifelong Learning at the University of South Florida, Sarasota-Manatee centered on managing the change that takes place in the lives of people as they advance into their senior years. There are choices that can or must be made to deal with life-changing events such as divorce, illness, or the disability or death of a life-long partner. Classes consisted of lectures and open discussion, and the topics discussed included the following:



Class 1 – Life events and how change affects roles, relationships, routines, and assumptions


Class 2
– Myths about Hospice; the role of Hospice in providing care and comfort


Class 3
– Breaking the cycle: Experiencing loss and moving through it.


Class 4
– Relationships –Image Therapy: Hearing Me, Hearing You


Class 5 – DNR – signing your life away


Class 6
– Elder law-Elder issues: fraud, guardianship, caregivers’ legal rights


Class 7 – Love and romance – Happy alone, happy together


Class 8 – Securing your future - protecting your assets


Class 9
– Reinventing yourself. Facing the fear and anxiety of being alone. Restarting life and moving on


Class 10
– Enhancing your life – Impacting other lives through volunteerism
