Love is Stronger Than Death was a course given
recently at Lifelong Learning at Regis College
in Massachusetts. Participants studied the meaning of death,
and whether our existence has meaning. These are questions that
the poet, the philosopher, the mystic, and the child in each
of us ask, yet we have been unable to unravel death’s
riddle.

This fall, members of the Osher Lifelong Learning
Institute at Berkshire Community College in Massachusetts
studied The Poetry of Robert Frost. Close readings
of a representative assortment of Frost’s poetry focused
on his form, imagery, metaphors and their possible interpretations.
They also toured the Robert Frost Stone House Museum in Shaftsbury,
Vermont.

Association (LIRA) program at the University of Massachusetts
Lowell. Members will learn about Blue Ray, WIFI, Blue Tooth,
HD, Blackberry, IPOD/MP3 Players, GPS, Portable hard drives,
Flash drives, Wireless routers/networks and other electronic
inventions

This past spring members of the McGill Institute
for Learning in Retirement in Montreal studied Marshall
McLuhan. Canada’s high priest of pop art also has
a serious side and participants looked at his writings including
literary criticism, poetry, and essays on painting. His vast
learning includes subjects such as philosophy, psychology, sociology,
history, and religion.

Members of the Adult Learning Institute at
Columbia-Greene Community College in Hudson, New York
learned all about the History of Jewelry earlier this
summer. They took a historical look at the use of gems and jewelry,
studied influential jewelry periods, modern trends in jewelry
and learned tips for care and cleaning of fine jewelry.

the title of a program taken recently by members of the Osher
Lifelong Learning Institute, Duke University, Durham, North
Carolina. Participants traveled the historic road of oil exploration.
The discovered the colorful lives of scientists, businessmen,
and adventures who struggled to bring oil and gas to the surface.

for Wellness. They learned how massage affects the organ
systems of the body, what are the basic components of a massage,

for Lifelong Education in Connecticut are having Fun
with Math. They are studying math history, baseball statistics,
puzzles, and games so as to further enhance their appreciation
of math. Group discussions and audience participation are also
part of the course.

that was offered to members of Lifelong Learning of
Hilton Head, Island. Participants took an arm-chair
round-the-world tour of the world’s soups. In the class
they learned the history and folklore of soups, then got to
prepare and enjoy them.
