ILEAD SUMMER LECTURE SERIES
Positive Solutions 2008: Changing America’s Crises into Opportunities
The Summer Lecture Series at the ILEAD program at Dartmouth University
looked at eight of the toughest crises facing America today and delivered
some thought-provoking solutions that are already “out there”
but infrequently supported enough to gain traction. And yet, these
are solutions that work; they can change our world dramatically, if
only we could break the logjam of predictable thinking, and alter
the structures and alliances that bar the road to true progress. So
to produce real change we need to understand the corrosive power of
money; the downside dangers of special interest lobbying and the deadening
effect of conventional wisdom.
Each of the speakers covered a different subject, on which he/she
has worked for years, helping attendees understand the real issues,
and then elevating them by covering the possibilities of pattern-breaking
success. Speakers came from the Woods Hole Research Institute, the
Tuck Business School, the CIA, and the Rocky Mountain Institute as
well as experts from Nova Scotia and the Southwest; medical care leaders
from Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, a Leading Campaign, the Finance
Reform Director, and the CEO of General Electric, among others.
This eight-week series was held on Wednesday mornings from 9 a.m.
until Noon.
