Did you know that:
Your Lifelong Learning Institute (LLI) is one of more than 500
similar programs across North America.
More than 300 of these organizations belong to the Elderhostel
Institute Network (EIN).
Around the world, there are over 1,000 comparable programs known
in other countries as Universities of the Third Age (U3As).
Globally, the Learning in Retirement movement is burgeoning,
with new programs starting up
every day?
You are all part of a worldwide phenomenon that is helping change
the way society looks at older adults and their continued
involvement in life.
Yes, the above facts are all true. The last, however, is the most important.
There is no doubt that your active participation in your LLI is helping
change the way our society views the usefulness of older adults. What a
lasting legacy to leave for future generations!
Along with helping effect this tremendous change, on a personal level you
know that belonging to such an outstanding program is one of the keys to
an active, involved and fulfilling life. LLI membership can also help lifelong
learners foster and capitalize on their strengths, empowering them to continue
learning, to expand their horizons, and to enhance their personal development.
Not only does your LLI benefit from your involvement; it also benefits from
belonging to the Elderhostel Institute Network. Thanks to the Elderhostel
name and the high national profile that EIN enjoys, we have access to special
programs and educational opportunities that we then pass along to all our
member institutes. As a resource and communications network, EIN keeps LLIs
like yours updated and current.
We also send a monthly ENews Bulletin, full of LLI program news,
to every email address in our system. If you would like to receive our monthly
E-News Bulletin please send your name, email address, state and organization
name to network@elderhostel.org.
In conjunction with our Bulletin, we maintain a special LLI section
on the Elderhostel website that is updated every month. Take a few minutes
and visit www.elderhostel.org/ein/intro.asp.
There you will find information designed to inform and enlighten both LLI
members and the general public.
Please feel free to contact EIN at network@elderhostel.org.
We welcome your thoughts and suggestions, and look forward to hearing from
you.
Cordially,
Nancy Merz Nordstrom
EIN Program Manager
