MILR MEMBER WINS FIRST PRIZE
Gordon Campey, a member of the McGill Institute
for Learning in Retirement in Montreal has won the first
prize in the annual Journal La Press/Montreal Biodome bird
photography contest, “Birds in Captivity,” category,
with his photo of a golden eagle taken in Alsace.

Congratulations to the Learning in Retirement Association
(LIRA) at the University of Massachusetts Lowell as they
celebrate their 20th Anniversary.
Members were treated to surprise gifts at their annual convocation
on September 17th.

20th ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION
The University of Minnesota, Duluth is celebrating their "Roaring
Twenties" with a year long celebration after 20 years of
University for Seniors. Each month will have a different celebration.
The opening is September 6th at the University with Dr. Arthur
Peterson (brother of their president, Gertrude Jacobson and
who helped us start our organization). He will speak on "Learning
in Retirement and our Successor Generations"

in Virginia has received a donation of $5,000 in memory of Kathryn
Brooks, a founding member of the Learning in Retirement Institute
at George Mason in 1991.

Adventures in Lifelong Learning (ALL), with the University of
Wisconsin at Parkside in Kenosha WI, is holding a year long
celebration of its 10th anniversary. A special logo and motto
has been designed, and we are repeating some of our earlier
successful programs.

their 15th Anniversary year with several different events. Celebrating

a $1 million endowment from the Bernard Osher Foundation. Not
every program that receives an initial grant from the Foundation
